Product activation
Authorization determines whether the client can be started and the range of functions available. This page describes the preparation materials, inputs, and FAQs for Fixed MAC Address Activation and Floating License Activation; see Installation Steps for the installation process.
Two ways to activate
| Matches | Fixed MAC Address Activation | Floating License Activation |
|---|---|---|
| Authorization source | A license file tied to the machine | License Server Uniform Assignment |
| Preparation required | License file issued with local information | Server address and port number of License Server |
| Action Portal | Import License in the Activation Certificate Dialog Box | Server Address, Port and Connections in the Activation Certificate Dialog Box |
| Applicable scenarios | Stand-alone use, authorization, and binding to fixed devices | Frequent changes in shared authorization pools, devices, or accounts for multiple people |
Both are done in the activation certificate dialog that pops up the first time you start the client, no additional components need to be installed.
Activate with Fixed MAC Address
- In the Start menu, find Datablau Data Modeler and launch the application.
- In the Activate Certificate dialog that pops up, click Import License.
- Select the license file path corresponding to the machine to complete the import.
- After the import is successful, go to the client homepage; if it fails, check whether the file issued by the local machine is used.
Activate with Floating License
- Launch the application and enter the server address and port number of the DDM License Server in the Activation Certificate dialog box.
- Click Connect and the client requests authorization from the authorization service.
- After the connection is successful, enter the client's home page; when the connection fails, first confirm the network is reachable, and then check the address and port.
Input check
| Inputs | Checkpoints |
|---|---|
| license file | Is it issued for the current device, is the file complete, has it expired |
| Server address | Can be accessed locally, complete service address instead of page address |
| Port Number | Is it consistent with the actual listening port of the authorized service |
| Authorization mode | Choose real-time mode or loan mode, whether it matches the way the team uses it |
Real-Time Mode vs. Rental Mode
| Mode | Release Timing | Suitable for |
|---|---|---|
| Real-time mode | Automatically return license resources after closing the DDM program | Fixed usage period, want to release the authorization at any time |
| Rental mode | License resources are released after expiration, early return requires manual shutdown | Offline or continuous use for a period of time |
When choosing the rental mode, if you no longer use the client, you should take the initiative to close it to return the resources in advance, so as to avoid other members from being unable to obtain authorization for a long time.
FAQs
| Phenomenon | Troubleshooting Order |
|---|---|
| Mismatch prompted after importing the license | Whether the file is issued for the current device, whether the device information has changed, and whether the file is complete |
| Failed to connect to License Server | Network connectivity, server address and port, availability of services |
| Authorization successful, but some functions are not visible | The scope of functions and account permissions covered by the authorization, based on the actual menu |
| Other members are unable to obtain authorization | Has anyone been on lease for a long time, or has the lease expired |
| Need to reauthorize after changing the device | Fixed MAC address method needs to reissue the license; Floating method can be connected directly |
