Business Object
Business objects are business modeling objects used in conceptual and logical models to describe things of interest from a business perspective. This page explains the scope of the business object, its relationship to the entity, and how it differs from the Archy business object standard; see Business Object Operations for creation and maintenance.
Applicable models and positioning
| Model Hierarchy | Availability | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Concept Model | Yes | Express business concepts as business objects, not refined to properties |
| Logical Model | Yes | Grouping of business objects and entities coexisting, carrying business perspectives |
| Physical model | No | The physical layer is expressed in tables and fields, and business objects are no longer used |
Relationship of business objects to entities
The business object establishes an attribution relationship with the entities/tables in the model by maintaining the business entities it contains. A business object can contain one or more business entities that point to entities/tables that already exist in the model.
| Object | Description | Maintenance Location |
|---|---|---|
| Business Objects | Objects from a business perspective, including a set of business entities | Business Object Editor |
| Business Entities | Entities contained in Business Objects, pointing to Entities/Tables in the Model | Business Entities menu in the Business Object Editor |
A business entity is a connection between a business object and an entity, and the same entity can belong to multiple business objects. Business object names can be generated from named dictionaries and named settings translations.
Difference from Archy Business Object Standards
| Comparison Items | Business Objects in the Model | Business Object Criteria for Archy |
|---|---|---|
| Maintenance Location | In the current model of the DDM client | Unified Maintenance in the Business Architecture (Archy) |
| Scope | Current model or subject area only | Enterprise level for multiple models to reference |
| Positioning | Describing the business concept of this model | Enterprise-level standards that govern the design of business objects |
| Analogy with field data standards | Fields similar to the reference data standards | Similar to the data standards themselves |
Business objects in the model can refer to standard business objects in Archy as "object standards", which is consistent with field reference data standards. See Business Object Operations for details. See Manage Schema Assets for maintenance of business objects in Archy.
Notice
- Business objects are only used for conceptual and logical models, and physical models correspond to entities/tables.
- Existing entities do not change structure by creating business entities, and attribution relationships are only used for organization and reading models.
