Map columns to data standards
Mappings connect definitions, technical requirements, and reference code domains to metadata. Confirm matching meaning rather than relying on similar names.
Prerequisites
Harvest the column and ensure access to it and suitable standards. Standards and reference codes must be usable. Resolve ambiguous business definitions with the owner.
Create a mapping
- Find the table in Datasets and open the column.
- Edit Data Standard under Technical Properties.
- Search data or metric standards and verify definitions, types, lengths, and value domains.
- Click Select.
- If prompted to use the standard's reference codes, verify value semantics first.
- Return to table details and check the association.
Use the separate reference code edit action where needed.
Verify references
Open the standard's Reference Information and confirm column and source. Mapping does not alter the database or validate record values. Use standards validation and quality tasks for conformance.
Change or remove mappings
Verify both objects before correcting semantics. Unbind columns through standard references. Review dependent standards validation, quality, and governance work after unbinding.
